Bosnich bout hunt

Opera singer Russell Watson has been asked to fight chunky soccer star Mark Bosnich in a celebrity boxing match.

BBC bosses approached the 30-year-old tenor hoping he is brave enough to get in the ring with the 15st former Chelsea goalkeeper.

TV Biz revealed this week that Bosnich’s bout was in doubt because the Beeb were struggling to find a famous opponent to match the 6ft 1in Aussie.

And we have since been inundated with calls from people wanting to fight him.

Cabbie Mark Ansell from Bethnal Green, East London said: “I’m not famous — but I wouldn’t mind having a go with Bosnich.”

But Beeb bosses hope they have found a heavyweight to take on Bosnich, who was 32 yesterday.

A BBC insider said: “We need a celebrity who is fit and under the age of 35 to take on Bosnich.

“We approached Russell after learning he trains with Thai boxer Paul Hughes to keep fit.

“Russell and Mark would be an unusual pairing — but it would make for an interesting fight.”

BBC Fight producer Andy Harris said: “We aim to screen a few celebrity boxing matches a year.”
