Superstar Russell Watson enjoys stay at Grand Hi-Lai
Russell Watson, the international superstar who has been dubbed “the next Luciano Pavarotti,” was invited to sing in the opening ceremonies of the 2009 Kaohsiung World Games. While in Kaohsiung he stayed at Grand Hi-Lai, the superb five-star hotel in the southern Taiwan city.
Watson, who prefers casual wear and always has a friendly smile for others, arrived at the Grand Hi-Lai to a reception by a staffer with a bouquet of flowers as well as the hotel General Manager, who extended a very cordial reception. Watson was impressed by the passion and warmth of the people of Taiwan during his stay in a deluxe suite during the games. The hotel also assigned an experienced housekeeper who has served many heads of state to handle his every need while in the hotel.
The housekeeper knew that Watson likes strawberries to keep his throat moist, so a big dish of strawberries and red wine were waiting in the living room. As soon as Watson stepped into his suite, his clothes were sent to be laundered and pressed, giving him a great sense of trust in the housekeeper. He knew he could directly inform the housekeeper when he needed something instead of calling on his personal secretary.
The Grand Hi-Lai Hotel has a great deal of experience in receiving honored guests. The deluxe suite served as a home where everything was well organized for Watson, who was thus free to concentrate on his performance in the opening ceremony. “It’s so nice staying here, the people are all so friendly,” he said on his departure, adding that he hopes to stay in the Grand Hi-Lai, his home in Kaohsiung, the next time he visits Taiwan.
