Russell Watson back in hospital

rcharticleSinger Russell Watson has cancelled a Japanese concert after being admitted to hospital.

‘The Voice,’ from Salford, was taken to hospital after feeling unwell on Tuesday.

Doctors say he was suffering from a virus and advised him not to make the long flight to Japan.

The 43-year-old is now resting at home but is expected to make a full recovery before Christmas.

His spokeswoman said the illness was not linked to the brain tumours which Russell suffered from over the last four years.

She said: “Russell contracted a virus and as a precaution was admitted to hospital. He has now left hospital and is resting at home.

“The concert in Japan was cancelled as doctors advised he didn’t travel and stayed at home until he is fully recovered.”

Russell was supposed to play a Christmas celebration this Sunday in Tokyo.

Fans have flooded his website with get-well wishes.

One Japanese fan, Keiko, wrote: “I was shocked you are not in good health and you’ll be unable to come to Japan for the Christmas dinner show.

“I really wish you’ll get well soon and you can come to Japan next year! Japanese fans are waiting for you!! God bless you!”

Watson was diagnosed with a tumour in 2005 and had emergency surgery to remove it.

It returned in 2007 and again had surgery and then radiotherapy at the Christie Hospital in Withington.

Last year he appeared as a judge on the BBC talent show Last Choir Standing.

Earlier this year Watson played two emotional homecoming gigs at The Lowry in Salford.

In a packed 12 months he has also helped to launch the Manchester 10k run.

Watson has also been tipped as a possible panellist on a new ITV talent show.

Nearly 3.5m people tuned in this month to a TV programme detailing his battle with cancer.
