Tenor Russell Watson was forced to call off a much-anticipated Irish concert after his flight was one of thousands cancelled due to ash from the volcanic eruption in Iceland.
Despite securing one of the last tickets on a sold-out ferry to Dublin, the singer was unable to get to Holyhead in time for the 5.15pm crossing.
As a result, organisers were forced to reschedule the singer’s big performance with the RTE Concert Orchestra.
“Attempts were made all day to get transport and all avenues were explored but he just didn’t make it in the end,” an RTE spokeswoman said.
The National Concert Hall Signature Series gig has now been rescheduled for August 22.
Irish Ferries said the star – known to fans as The Voice – would be welcome on their service any time.
“We had the ticket waiting for him,” a spokeswoman said.
“We’ll look after him any time.”
